2018 New Member Service Project

In 2018 The Atlanta (GA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated newest members established a partnership with the Girls on the Run Heart & Sole program.  This middle school program considers the whole girl--spirit, soul and body--in a positive, structured space where girls can learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy and strengthen connections.  Running is incorporated into each lesson to encourage physical wellness and teach life skills such as team building, creating a support system, standing up for themselves and others and decision making.  The girls prepare for a celebratory Girls on the Run 5k event at the end of the program.  This non-competitive event fosters goal setting and a sense of confidence through accomplishment to last a lifetime.

We partnered with the team coaches and 15 girls at Camp Creek Middle School for numerous activities, including:

  • A team Community Service Project where the girls created ‘Blessing Bags’ containing toiletries and feminine products and donated them to the women of Gilgal Inc.

  • The girls participating in a Mock 5K to practice for the final race.

  • The Girls on the Run Fall 5K taking place at Turner Field.

The Members of The Atlanta (GA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated enjoyed their service with Heart & Sole and plan to continue the relationship with Girls on the Run through the work of the Health and Human Services facet. We would like to thank the chapter members that supported us throughout this process.
